KIRKWOOD, N.Y. -- Senior citizens in Kirkwood now have a new option for housing. A ribbon cutting was held at the Valley View Apartments Tuesday.
The new facility on Woodhill Road provides affordable housing for seniors. The entire 32-unit complex is completely handicap accessible.
The project was made possible with partial funding from the USDA. Officials say it is important for senior citizens to feel like they have a safe place to retire, especially in rural communities.
"What we do at rural development is fund projects that enable people to have a fine and good quality of life in rural New York," said Jill Harvey with the USDA.
"Many of these folks can't afford the upkeep of their homes and this is an opportunity to stay in the community, live in an affordable manner, and be amongst their peers who can help look after them," said developer Bruce Levine.
The complex is currently accepting applications. For more information you can contact the apartment's office at (607) 775-1656.
