All it took was a can of vegetables and a little motivation to bring fitness goers to Page Fitness Center bright and early for their first Turkey Busting Workout session. Carmella Mataloni has more.

WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Work for your turkey. A wakeup call to remember for the men and women fixing to cut calories before the Thanksgiving fixings get the best of them.

They all got up early for the Turkey Busting Workout at Page Fitness in Watertown and the cost was nothing more than a can of vegetables for those who don't have the luxury of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.

The workout wasn't long, but as this group learned all it takes to shed the pre-holiday calories is high intensity.

“We focused on body weight. It was a very short, intense workout. I think overall they worked out for less than fifteen minutes,” said head trainer Jamie Wood.

It was all about repetition. As groups threw up medicine balls like butterballs to keep their heart rates going, knowing that extra push would benefit them in the end.

The main goal of this program is to show participants that you don’t have to work out for an hour and a half just to have that extra slice of pie.

“You come in you do high intensity work, ten, fifteen minutes. That’s all you really need, so we can squash any of those excuses that I don’t have time,” said Woods.

For Julia Robbins, exercising is second nature. She says that it is especially important to get your body going around the holidays when apple and pumpkin pies becomes the enemy.

“You really can’t go too crazy because its calories in and calories out. So I try to get in a little bit of exercise on holidays, whether I take my dog for a walk or go for a little jog. Just do a little something extra to make up for the food that I’m eating,” said Robbins.

As always, remember you should do a whole body stretch after strenuous aerobic activity just after pushing a muscle beyond its limit. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
