A late-night fire continues to burn on Binghamton's east side. Reports of a structure fire on Montgomery Street came in around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. Our Brad Vivacqua has more from Binghamton.

Binghamton's fire chief Daniel Thomas told us Wednesday night that this building's location made this fire very difficult for firefighters. At this point, there are no reported injuries as fire crews continue to attend to this fire here on the 100 block of Montgomery Street this morning.

This fire was first reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. at the complex of the old Pa's Woodshed. When crews first arrived they found several multi-story brick buildings in flames.

The complex is about 200 feet from the Route 1781 interchange, and Binghamton Police and DOT trucks continue to have some ramps blocked off nearby.

The chief talked to us about how it was decided to battle this fire.

Chief Daniel Thomas said, "Our gameplan was just try to find multiple sources of water that we could. We actually had a hydrant down there that we were able to utilize, but then we had to go down and cut through a couple of driveways and fields and we were able to attack it from a different direction."

Thomas says crews will continue working on pockets of fire and hot spots throughout the day today to ensure this fire doesn't resurface.

The cause remains under investigation.

The building was believed to have been vacant and served as a furniture store for several years. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
