BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. -- The public is being asked for their input in order to create a better Broome County.

The Department of Planning and Economic Development is updating the county’s Comprehensive Plan for the first time in almost 50 years. They held the first of a series of meetings around the area at the Chenango Town Hall Tuesday night.

The goal is to go over feedback received from more than 1,200 surveys that were already completed. Attendees were also asked to talk about their visions for the future of the county.

Planners already met with stakeholders to ask for their opinions, but now it's the public's turn to speak up.

"What are the strengths of this community? What should we be building on? What are the weaknesses? What are the opportunities? What do you see in other communities you wish were in Broome County? And what are the threats that are out there that can impact the community in a negative way?" said Broome County Planning Chief Planner Frank Evangelisti.

Upcoming meetings will be in Windsor and Endicott. The Comprehensive Plan is expected to be finished this summer.
