ONONDAGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The Onondaga County Sheriff's office has released the names of the deputies involved in a shooting earlier this week.
Investigators say Deputy Brent McDonald, 33, Detective Terrence Fischer, 47, and Detective Robert Pitman, 44, had accompanied a burglary suspect to his home on Everingham Road in the Town of Onondaga to identify stolen property.
The suspect, Arcadio Figueroa, 58, grabbed a sawed off shot gun and first pointed it at himself, then at the deputies. Investigators say one deputy opened fire, but it's still unclear who that was.
The suspect continues to recover at Upstate University Hospital, where he was arraigned on several charges including menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and grand larceny.
Both McDonald and Fischer were hired with the Sheriff's office in 2002. Pitman has been with the force since 1999.
